Dream come true headshave part 1
Hi friends, how are you? Many of you have been asking for multiple head-shaving stories in a single post. So, in this story, I am writing about 5 members getting their heads shaved. The story will be a bit lengthy, so please bear with me; this is an imaginary story.
Getting into the main story, I am Ravi (22). There are four members in our house: Mom, Dad, myself, and my younger sister. My sister stays in a hostel, so she isn't home much. It was September 2023. When we went to our family temple earlier this year, Mom was supposed to get her head shaved, but it wasn't possible for some reasons. So, she had to fulfill that vow this month. Around that time, my paternal aunt (Atta) Ganga (36) and my maternal aunt (Pinni) Bujji (38) came to our house.
The Conversation:
Pinni (P): Sister, are you going to the family temple?
Mom (A): Yes, we have to go this Sunday. Why?
P: You just went for the festival recently, why again?
A: There is a vow (mokku).
P: Oh, really? Didn't you fulfill it when you went last time?
A: No, your brother-in-law said no because there was a function.
P: I see. What is the vow exactly?
A: When Ravi was unwell, I prayed that if he got better, I would offer my hair (talanelalu).
P: Oh, I see. Okay.
A: Yes. By the way, you also have a vow, right?
P: Yes, that’s why I asked, Sister.
A: Then come along with us.
P: Your brother-in-law said the same thing.
Just then, my Atta (Ganga) arrived.
Atta (G): Sister-in-law, are you home? (from outside)
A: Come in, Ganga.
G: Coming. Oh, Bujji, you are here too?
P: Yes, Atta.
A: Ganga, what a sudden visit?
G: Nothing, Sister-in-law, just felt like coming.
A: I see.
G: What are you sisters discussing so seriously?
A: Nothing much. My head-shaving vow is still pending, so I’m going this Sunday. Since Bujji also has a vow, she’s joining.
G: Oh, is that so?
A: Why don't you join us too?
G: Yes, I’ll come. Who else is going?
A: Me, Ravi, and Bujji.
P: Is Ravi coming too?
A: Yes, it’s for him that I made the vow.
G: Does that mean Ravi is getting shaved too?
A: No, no. He doesn't like it, so I vowed to give my hair instead.
G: Oh, okay.
Then my uncle (Atta Ganga's husband, M) arrived.
Uncle (M): What’s this ladies' meeting about? Do I need to cook?
A: Nothing like that.
G: Dear, they are going to the temple this Sunday to fulfill a vow. They asked me to join. Should I go?
M: Sure, go. Sister-in-law, what is the vow?
A: Offering hair (talanelalu), Shiva.
M: Oh, who is giving?
A: Me and Bujji.
M: I see. Since they are both doing it, why don't you finish yours too while you're at it?
G: Me?
M: Yes, you.
G: I thought about it, but then I hesitated.
M: It’s fine, it’s for God.
A: Shiva, if she’s not comfortable, don’t force her.
G: It’s not that, Sister-in-law. I’m willing, but just a bit scared.
P: It’s okay, we are doing it too.
G: Okay then, Bujji, I will do it too.
M: Fine. How are you all going?
A: Ravi is there, we’ll go in the car.
For the next two days, the ladies took photos and made reels with their hair, since it was their last few days with long hair. I forgot to mention: my Atta has long hair reaching below her waist, Pinni’s hair is up to her waist, and Mom’s is a bit shorter—when brought to the front, it reaches her chest.
I was listening to this whole conversation from my room. My happiness knew no bounds. The thought of seeing all three of them bald made me so excited I couldn't sleep for two days. On Saturday night, Atta and Pinni came to our house because we had to leave early. After dinner, we all sat in the living room.
G: Sister-in-law, how many times have you shaved your head?
A: This will be the 5th time.
G: 5 times? Wow!
A: It’s nothing; just fulfilling a vow.
G: Do you have an extra cap with you?
A: Yes, I have two extras.
G: Bring them tomorrow.
P: Sister, why don't you wear a cap?
A: I felt weird wearing a cap after my first shave, so I stopped.
G: Then why did you buy the other two?
A: Last time the sun was too hot and my head was burning, so I bought them.
P: Ravi, go get that oil.
N: Here, Pinni. (I handed her the oil bottle)
Pinni started applying oil to her hair.
N: Pinni, why apply oil when you're getting shaved tomorrow anyway? (I teased)
Everyone laughed.
P: Just one last time, sister.
A: Okay, we need to start by 6 AM. Go to sleep.
They all slept in one room, and I was in mine, thinking about how I would shave them and how smooth their heads would be. The next morning, we started at 6 AM and reached the temple around 7:30 AM. We took a room, kept our things, and by 9 AM, we headed to the Kalyana Katta (shaving area). It was quite far from our room.
G: Sister-in-law, where exactly do they do the shaving?
A: I’m not sure, it changes. Ravi usually checks first, then I go.
G: Ravi, go find out where it is.
P: And get 3 tokens for the shaving. Don’t forget.
N: Okay, Pinni.
I went to the token counter, but it was closed. I searched around since it was Sunday, but couldn't find another spot. A shopkeeper told me the Kalyana Katta was completely closed today. I was disappointed and went back to the others.
G: Is it nearby?
P: Did you get the tokens?
N: No, Pinni. The Kalyana Katta is closed today.
A: Even on a Sunday? Is there no other place?
N: They said it’s completely closed this time.
A: Now what?
N: I don't know, Mom.
P: Will no one shave heads today?
N: I called a barber I knew from last time; even he isn't available.
A shop lady (S) approached us.
S: Will you buy coconuts?
A: No, mother. We have a vow to fulfill first.
S: What vow?
A: Offering hair.
S: Oh, they closed the Kalyana Katta today. No barbers are here.
G: We don't know what to do.
S: Well, my grandson is a barber but he isn't here. However, I have razors, blades, and rubber bands in my shop.
P: What will we do with those?
S: If any of you know how to shave, you can do it yourselves and fulfill your vow.
A: We'll see if we find anyone.
S: I’m right here in the next shop if you need anything.
A: Ravi, go into town and see if you can find any barber. We should finish the vow since we are here.
I went and checked, but no one was there. I called Mom and told her I was returning empty-handed.
A: Ganga, Bujji... there are no barbers in town.
G: Should we go back?
A: We shouldn't go back without fulfilling the vow.
P: Then what, sister?
G: (Tense) We can't just stay here or leave.
A: I know, but what can I do? Should I shave you? (joking)
P: Sister, do you even know how to shave?
A: No! I was just kidding.
G: I have an idea. It’s our best option. Ravi knows how to shave.
A: He does, but should we ask him?
G: What's wrong with that? Under these circumstances, it’s the best idea.
P: Does he really know how to do a full head shave?
A: He knows. Once after a shave, I had some hair left near my ears and neck; he cleared it perfectly. But I don't know how to ask him.
G: I’ll ask him.
I returned, and they looked tense.
N: Should we head back?
G: Ravi, come here. We can't leave without the vow.
N: But there is no one here, Atta.
G: We know you know how to shave. Since we have no choice, will you shave us?
Inside, I was screaming with joy, but I had to play it cool.
N: Me? No, Atta, it wouldn't be right. Let’s stay until tomorrow.
G: It’s okay, if we don't mind, why should you?
N: But Mom and Pinni...
G: They agreed, that’s why I’m asking. Your mom even suggested it.
N: If you all are okay with it, then I am too.
G: (Kisses my shoulder) Good boy.
A: Is it a yes? (to Atta)
G: (Thumbs up)
A: Ravi, go buy the supplies from that shop.
I went and bought a shaving razor, blades (5 extra), and rubber bands.
The Shaving Process
We went to our room. To avoid people seeing, we went to the inner room. I set everything up in a corner.
A: Who goes first?
G: Sister-in-law, you go first. It’s my first time, I’m scared.
P: Yes, Sister, you go. I’ll feel more confident watching him shave you.
A: Okay, I’ll go.
Mom sat down. Atta brought a bucket of water. I stood behind Mom, untied her hair, and massaged her scalp. I poured water over her head, soaking her hair completely. I parted her hair into two sections and tied two pigtails.
N: Mom, should I start?
A: Yes. Say "Govinda."
I put a new blade in the razor. I offered a quick silent prayer. I tilted Mom's head down and made the first stroke right down the center. A white path of skin appeared. Mom, Atta, and Pinni all chanted "Govinda, Govinda."
I proceeded to shave the right side, moving from back to front. I carefully shaved around her ears. Then I moved to the left side and did the same.
N: Mom, there’s some fine hair on your upper lip and chin, should I clear that too?
A: Yes.
I shaved her face as well. Then she turned around so I could do the back. The view of her half-shaved head was incredible. I cut off the two pigtails and handed them to her. She held her own hair in her lap.
Finally, I did a "smooth pass" to make sure no stubble was left. I poured water to clean her head. Her bald head was shining and smooth, reflecting the light. She stood up and rubbed her smooth head, while Atta and Pinni checked the "work" with amazement. I changed the blade again to prepare for the next person.
Sorry friends, the story got very long. I will tell you how I shaved Atta and Pinni and the "twist" in the next part. If you liked the story, please comment and share your opinion.
